FAQs

What is therapy?

I believe therapy looks different and the "definition" varies for each individual. From my perspective, therapy is an opportunity for self-discovery and change. Therapy helps us hold the complexities of life and make connections between seemingly unrelated experiences. Therapy is self-care, and a big part of self-care is self-acceptance. We all contain parts of ourselves that are difficult to accept, and facing those parts are easier said than done. It takes courage to begin and it helps to have support.

Why somatic therapy?

Somatic therapy can help us to find a new language for our feelings. Sometimes we do not have the words to express our innermost experience. By tapping into the body and connecting our felt senses to situations, we gain an understanding of our whole self. When we begin to understand that our bodies are our biggest source of information, our ability to listen with intention to our body ‘s signals also increases.

How long should I commit to therapy, at least in the beginning?

This depends on your own goals and expectations for therapy. I see some people for shorter periods of time (3-6 months) and others who are more long-term (6+ months). I believe that in the beginning it is about establishing rapport, gaining awareness of your own needs and goals, and seeing what interventions work best for you. Recommended amount of time for therapy usually varies depending on the presenting issue or problem. For example, if you are feeling depressed, research shows 12 sessions can be effective. I recommend giving it at least 2 months, however, it is always ok to stop therapy at any time.

Will I have to move my body during sessions?

Only if that is what your body is telling you to do! Even when we are still, our breath continues to move our bodies in a natural rhythm. Our sessions together typically involve verbal processing. At times, I will ask you to check in with your body and notice the sensations that are coming up as you speak about current issues or past events.

What is your fee?

My full fee is $200 for 45-minute individual sessions and $250 for couples. I also offer a sliding scale rate for those who are not able to pay that amount based on income. If you feel you qualify for sliding scale, I can provide a form to apply. Additionally, I can generate a SuperBill at the end of each month to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

Do you accept insurance?

I am currently an out-of-network provider and do not directly accept insurance. My sessions are often reimbursable (up to 70% depending on your plan). If you decide to use insurance please check your coverage for out-of-network benefits prior to our first meeting.
